The trip to Joshua Tree was transformative, as we left the amazing seashore for the high desert. We did not know what to expect but were not disappointed. From the photos below you can see how beautiful and unique this area is. The calm silence of the desert was both relaxing and powerful.
The rock landscape of the park was different from anything we've seen before. Made of a type of granite, the weather has gradually eroded the rock into beautiful shapes. Rock climbers love them. We camped at two campgrounds - Jumbo Rocks and White Tank.
The living plants were just as amazing. Such a harsh climate but yet it is just thriving. We learned that Joshua trees (seen in pictures below) are actually a member of the Yucca plant family!
Here are a few nice shots to show a bit more of the scenery. The couple with the water way in the background are from the Keyes' Point lookout. The hills beyond the Salton Sea in the distance are in Mexico. We enjoyed some stargazing, and Liz encountered a curious desert Jackrabbit on one of her hikes!
Finally, we needed to leave and move on to our next adventure. On the way out it got a little tight as we explored a slot canyon, but we did make it.
