Leaving the white behind!

We started our winter journey on February the 8th, 2025. We left Issaquah while it was snowing and cold. Our first and second days of driving were 10 hours each, first to Redding, CA and then Newport Beach (just south of LA), where we relaxed for 4 days on the coast. We were able to meet up with one of Liz's colleagues in LA for dinner, which was fun.

We stayed at Crystal Cove State Campground for 4 nights. While the weather was a little overcast, it was beautiful and very peaceful.

Next was a location outside of Escondido CA. The big surprise here was how close we were staying to the San Diego Safari Park. We booked a Sunday outing and jumped in for a full day of animals, lots of walking, and sunshine. It was a perfect temperature, and we loved how large and natural the park was. We were able to see many endangered and unique animals from Africa and around the world. The Park is actively working with partners around the world to support recovery of threatened and endangered species.

Now we are settled for three nights at South Carlsbad State Park before heading to San Diego. It's a nice little campground on the bluff above the beach where we can watch the surfers, and we get to sleep with the sound of the ocean waves. 🌊

Well, it is time to leave the coast and sunsets for some San Diego exploration. In our next post we will be in San Diego. We will be spending 8 nights in a campground right near the city (which will be interesting), so we have time to explore the area extensively.

A day at the San Diego Zoo

We arrived in San Diego on the 14th day of our trip, and one of the things we really wanted to do was the Zoo. We have mixed feelings...
