San Diego - RV Rally and Friends

After our day at the Zoo, the View/Navion Rally began. This was a meet-up of other people who have the same RV we have, and we joined friends we made at the rallys we attended last year in Texas and Oregon. This rally was held at a campground on the north side of Mission Bay, one of the suburbs of San Diego. We loved the size of San Diego - it's a smallish city that's very easy to get around - the joke soon became everything was "15 mins away" and it really was.

One of the first things we did was to go to the Little Italy street market in downtown Sand Diego with our friends Terri and Michael, who we met at the Texas Eclipse rally last year and would traveling with for the next 10 days. The market was in the Italian district, a cute neighborhood, and we bought lots of delicious local produce. We ended the afternoon with an amazing Italian lunch.

On a day that we had to run some errands and wanted to do a bit of exploring, we grabbed fixings for a picnic lunch and set out. We had a nice drive towards La Jolla and stumbled upon Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial. The site was the perfect place for a quick bite to eat while we enjoyed the 360-degree views of the coastline to San Diego and La Jolla.

Next, we had a very fun, unexpected visit with our good friends and neighbors Patty and Doug from Issaquah who happened to be San Diego visiting their daughter at college! We were able to make an afternoon of it and drove out to Coronado Island, saw the Coronado Hotel, explored the beach and had a nice seaside dinner. It was so fun to see our friends in a totally different city!

Liz did some extra exploring out at nearby Pacific Beach, which looks like a great place to have a fun beach vacation! Lots of cute touristy shops, restaurants, and small hotels, and another gorgeous beach of course. This is California after all!

The RV rally was great. We met new fellow RVers and enjoyed some fun social time. The night scene here was during our first evening singalong.

The location of the rally was very convenient, although city camping in and RV "resort" is very different from what we're used to! Sites a little cramped and basically in a parking lot, but once our neighbors were all friends it didn't seem so bad. The location was right on the beach which helped us forget that we really were in the city. We liked walking along the bay, we did our laundry, and Liz took advantage of the campground's warm swimming pool!

After 8 nights in San Diego, it was time to move on. Our next week will be spent at Anza Borrego State Park, in southeastern California, after being away for 2 years. We are hoping for some wildflowers, dark skies, and quiet walks with beautiful cactus and desert wildlife.

A day at the San Diego Zoo

We arrived in San Diego on the 14th day of our trip, and one of the things we really wanted to do was the Zoo. We have mixed feelings...

San Diego and environs are still a "top" destination. The best of California. Been there twice.👍👍❤️
